South Norwood New Library

Housed in the new build called “Pump House”, the old library was to have transferred its contents to this new build, which comprised of 14 one and two-bed flats on the upper floor of the library.

The build remains incomplete and although the Council are pursuing the contractors to complete, with the financial bankruptcy declared by the Council, funds to operate the library was not forthcoming.

The library has been a refuge for young parents, elderly and school children that a local community group, Friends of South Norwood Library, has taken on the task of rallying support to petition the council and to campaign against this closure. If the library closes, it will have a significant impact on those with no access to technology or the internet, minority groups, youth, elderly and those with disabilities who reside in the area.
